Program Outcome 1:
Although the past eight weeks has been hectic as far as putting drug class medication tables
together, becoming familiar with different mental illnesses and their symptoms and studying for
quizzes and exams, I believe I have gained knowledge and insight on the approach and care for
the mentally ill. Understanding medication drug class, their target symptoms, pharmacokinetics,
and pharmacodynamics will help me to prescribe more confidently and safely. Understanding
from this course that individuals may respond differently to medications and treatments is
another aspect of individualized or patient centered care that I plan to incorporate into practice as
a mental health provider. Finally, understanding the patient, which includes their lifestyle,
physical and emotional needs outside of their diagnosis and symptoms will help me to formulate
a more holistic approach to their care and treatment plan to include non-medication therapy and
activities.
AACN Essentials Domain1 (1.2h)
Weekly discussions on different case studies have allowed me to critically analyze and research
each scenario and or disease process then formulate and apply the best intervention for that case.
Through peer discussions I sometimes realize my intervention was not the safest, most
therapeutic, or ethical choice and was allowed the opportunity to reevaluate and make changes to
my interventions without penalization. As a future PMHNP I will continue to employ ethical
decision making in my practice to assess, intervene, evaluate those in my care
